VIRTUE will soon be even better!
VIRTUE has been granted 400 000 Euro from Erasmus+ for upgrading with many new features as the iNaturalist´s species identification tool, microplastic identification, invasive marine species etc
VIRTUE was established in 1997 as a joint research and educational project by the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, USA, the Centre for Science Education at the University of Bergen, Norway and the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.

The Erasmus funded project VIRTUE-s officially ended on the 31 August 2020. Now the EU reviewer has awarded the project with high scores branding the project “Best practice”.
VIRTUE's distance learning course "Promoting Ocean Literacy and Project-Based Learning by Monitoring Biodiversity" is now available and open to everyone on VIRTUE's website!
The language of the course is English. No pre-registration required.
The course includes four pre-recorded lectures, more than 30 videos and many literature tips.
In the spring 2020, when many schools were closed due to the pandemic of Covid-19, VIRTUE-s launched a digital global classroom for international collaborations on marine biology topics. Students participating in the project from home, were able to follow the program and met researchers and experts from universities and organizations from four countries. The content is connected to participants local curricular demands, but a passing grade will also grant an exclusive diploma of achievement signed by participating universities.
A brand new course PROMOTING OCEAN LITERACY AND PROJECT-BASED LEARNING BY MONITORING BIODIVERSITY will be launched 20th of April
VIRTUE meets Arts - and vice versa!
VIRTUE is also about describing all fascinating organisms on VIRTUE discs.
Students at Hebbelschule in Kiel, one of VIRTUE-s partners, have contributed to a beautiful and inspiring art exhibition in their assembly hall..
The VIRTUE method is a great way for educators and students to learn about and measure biodiversity of aquatic environments through the accumulation of organisms on CD-shaped discs (biofouling).
The VIRTUE website is currently under update but you can continue to use it.
